About Me

CURRENT MISSION

seeking liberation by disconnecting from materialism. how far will i go? i'd like to meet some cool new friends, too

ABOUT ME

I've heard these words used to describe me:
transparent, genuine, mellow, zealous, courageous, hippie, naive, analytical, deep, adventuresome, outdoorsy, leftist, polite, aloof, independent, individualistic, empathic, honest.

PHILOSOPHY

It's true, we are all one. And when one suffers, we all suffer.

I feel a responsibility to work with others to help stop war, end racism, promote equal rights for all people, stand against injustice, and protect our environment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a newbie. So far, I've only hosted a fellow surfer.

The couch surfing community can help unite the world's people and increase the peace we all deserve. Recognizing that potential has been exciting for me, so I've been spreading the word about it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted once and it was a positive experience for me and my guest.

Interests

River fishing.

Exploring nature. Wilderness camping.

The Great Lakes, especially Lake Michigan.

Old Time Mountain Music. I'm learning to play clawhammer banjo.

Experiencing live music that compels me to dance in a primal, improvisational manner.

Vegetarian Cuisine, especially simple bodly spiced Cajun, Mexican, Indian, and Carribean. Cooking and eating are two of many simple pleasures that make life so enjoyable.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some books I'm reading or have read:
A People's History of the United States - Howard Zinn

Hegemony or Survival, America's Quest For Global Dominance - Noam Chomsky

The Shock Doctrine - Naomi Klien

People Skills - Robert Bolton, Ph.D

Some of my favorite movies include: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and Jeremiah Johnson

I listen to music, a lot. Lately I've been into new, experimental blue-grass bands like Cornmeal, Railroad Earth, Hot Buttered Rum, Yonder Mountain Stringband, and Leftover Salmon.

I like the Grateful Dead very much..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode a bus to Washington, DC and attended a massive anti-war rally Jan 27, 2007. Experiencing that energy changed my life profoundly.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm an expert angler. I'll teach you to fish, if you want.

I'm a pretty good cook. I'd like to collaborate with surfers to prepare a celebratory feast.

I know a whole lot about home maintenance and repair. Residential building construction methods and materials are areas of expertise.

I can play a bit of banjo and guitar. It'd be really cool to connect with other musicians.

Minimalism and veganism intrigue me. I find myself leaning in those directions and would like to learn from others with more experience.
