About Me

Hi, I'm Jenima :)

the "i" is long so it sounds like Jeneema but make the J somewhat soft and you've got it... or, Nima for short.

Originally from California and Ohio in the US. I lived in Brooklyn NYC for most of my 30s and loved every second of it. Still though I needed a change of scenery in 2019 so I came to Amman, Jordan the end of that summer with the intention of staying 3 months that quickly turned into 6 months and then when Covid hit I decided to stay, ended up making the best of friends that year and Amman has been my home base ever since. I might move somewhere sometime in 2023 but am not yet set on where.

A restless wanderer by nature, much like many others on this site I'm sure. I always had the desire to live a travelers life and happy that I've been able to make it a reality. I'm a self employed freelancer and I work remote. Still on a journey to being financially secure/free but so far the gig is working and getting better/easier bit by bit.

Half & half introvert/extrovert, I love being around people but also really love (and need) my me-time. I was diagnosed with ADHD early this year (at 38 y/o, ugh) and although sooo much makes sense now about my life up to that point I still have a ton to learn about it.

Started listing my interests but realized there's a designated space for that below...

Just out here trying to live my best life like everyone else! On that constant journey of self discovery, realization, healing, etc and feel deeply that travel is a huge component to that journey.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Clearly I love to travel but I keep a base mostly because I have a pet so I have monthly rent to consider which makes paying for lodging when traveling harder which makes travel less frequent. House/pet sitting is a big way I am able to afford to travel often (ask me about it, it's great) but they don't always line up back to back so I need more options for the times between housesitting gigs that won't break the bank.

Aside from the obvious financial perk of couchsurfing, I really love meeting new people while I travel. I travel solo a lot and am typically comfortable with talking to strangers. Whether it's staying with locals or ex-pats or linking up with other travelers to airbnb a place or stay in a hostel together or simply meeting up, I find I connect best with other transient types who go against the grain of a typical lifestyle and I always learn things from those interactions.

I am NOT on Couchsurfing to hook-up so don’t message me if that is your hope or expectation of outcome.

And I will NOT accept friend requests from people I have never met.

Also I will ignore/delete messages from anyone without a thorough profile or clear photos. If you don’t understand why then maybe you shouldn’t be on this site.

If you’ve made it this far reading and still want to connect please refer to something I’ve said in this profile in your message so I know you’ve read it.

K thankssss

Interests

I like/need to keep active otherwise I get quite anxious and irritable. I love the outdoors, hiking, dancing, yoga, swimming, boxing (total beginner but I love it), long walks through cities or nature, and really miss owning a bicycle (was my main mode of transportation in NYC when I lived there). A lot of these things are hard to do living in Jordan without a car.

I've always identified as a creative type with a big appreciation for the arts. I studied fashion at Uni and then worked as a textile designer for American clothing brands you've probably heard of for many years before realizing I was not meant for an office. I love DIY projects, playing around with interior design, great architecture makes me emotional lol, I get really excited finding street art in the cities I visit, and typically visit at least 1 museum or art gallery everywhere I go. If/when I can afford I love going to a musical theater show. Always down for live music and stand up comedy!

I've been someone who drinks since I was like 16 but lately I'm not as interested in it. As much as I love a good glass of wine, thoughtful cocktail, or a well crafted beer, I am drinking less and less alcohol these days. More and more I'm enjoying experiencing life without it, I definitely get a lot more accomplished, feel better, and save a ton of money. So yeah, very interested in sober experiences and adventures.

I love good food, who doesn't though.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite's are tough for me, I like a lot of different things!

Music
umm... idk, a little bit of everything (except most American Country music).
here's my Spotify profile
https://open.spotify.com/user/124164470?si=52272cfcbf424cd4

Movies
I love comedies and any other genre mixed with comedy. Probably my top favorite is American cult classic, The Princess Bride, have loved it since I first saw it as a kid and one of few I've seen repeatedly and never tire of.

Books
I'm a terrible reader, rarely can keep focus unless I'm really into it. Thank goodness for audiobooks!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It might be a daily struggle but choosing to accept and love myself for who I am, flaws and all.

Teach, Learn, Share

Open to some language exchange with Ελληνικά & Español speakers... just know that I'm an early beginner in both languages!! Sadly my Arabic is shit, it's better than a lot of ex-pats here in Amman, but I've forgotten most of what I learned since most people here speak English.

I can sew and am overall quite crafty. As I said above, I love DIY (do-it-yourself) projects and can be pretty resourceful with it too.

I have a good eye and feel for interior decorating and furniture placement so if you need any help with that I can offer a reasonable level of assistance.

I have always wanted to learn the guitar.

I love to experience/learn about local/traditional dance and music on my travels.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm great with animals and happy to help with your fur babies. I've done a lot of house and pet sitting in my life and walked dogs for a while in NYC.
