About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to see the world in a sustainable way. I use backpackers', and hostels mostly but am looking into couch surfing to meet unique people that have a passion for life like myself.

ABOUT ME

Well I am a mature backpacker (about 5 years older than the typical early 20's). I was a Mechanic for 8 years, then I discovered working on a ski hill and through that I discovered working holiday VISA's. I had never heard of this from others as no one I knew had travelled this was. My first rip to Central America for one month backpacking with a friend after my first season working on a ski hill as a lift attendant sparked the whole desire to travel more. So afte working in the Automotive industry again for a few more years I realized my age would soon become a hinderance if I did not take the chance to travel. Therefore I packed my toolbox (my most valued possesion), along with what else would fit into the small storage unit, and gave away or sold evrything else that I had. I then arrived in New Zealand with 2 amazing friends who embarked me on this journey that I am ever so grateful for. But before I ramble on too much, I will say I do enjoy a good social night out out with a few drinks, as much as an expedition on a hike or to a museum, or a local place of interest. I enjoy cities as much as I enjoy small towns. I enjoy reading with a soft spot for fantasy books and sometimes good sci-fi. I'm a very positive person and I believe in sustainability (take only what you need), and if I had a religion it would be Karma (treat others as you would want to be treated). hopefully I will mee some amazing people on this journey to share some amazing experiences with. :D

PHILOSOPHY

treat others how you would like to be treated, and don't judge others. Try to understand their position then maybe it will all become clear.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movies are probably Labrynth with David Bowie, Heavy metal (the origional one from the 80's), I have recently read the first 2 books in the Inheritance series, Eragon, and Eldest, and would like to read the next one, Brisingr. They are fantasy books, and I am a fan or dragons, but not obsessively

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Working 12-14 hours during the night (7pm-9am) on Ruapehu skii field riding around in the snow via 15 lumen head torch running snowmaking guns in icy condition over large dangerous drops. Some night were that hardest work I have ever done being covered in a shell of ice, and cold wet and tired as we work with water to make the snow. But during the full moons, and clear nights where a shooting star would burn red as it soared across the sky was a memory I hope I never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach people about their car, and if tools are available (as mine are stored back in Canada) I can show you how to change your oil, a tire, or rebuild an engine (but that takes a lot more time and money). I can share informaton on a lot of random stuff as I enjoy reading and absorbing information and doing many different jobs to ascertain skills.
