About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See as much of the world as I can, and learn as much as I can. Perhaps more...

ABOUT ME

At a towering 5'1" I'm not a commanding presence physically, but I make up for that with my voice. I've been described as being very argumentative, and while I wouldn't necessarily disagree, I'd like to amend the comment and correct the connotation that comes with it. I like to challenge people. I'm a strong believer in the Socratic Method. If someone makes a statement I'll be likely to try to counter it, even if I agreed with what was said. I believe that this is a way for us all to learn.
I'm currently living and working in Dublin on a co-op. (So I'm technically still a student but I'm not in classes) My jobs is to supervise and act as a TA for 85 freshmen studying abroad for their first semester in college. It's a demanding job but I'm loving it. I love teaching, and I get to do it all day!

PHILOSOPHY

As a philosophy major, you would think that this would be an easy question, but I'm not sure... I guess that's probably because I'd describe myself as a skeptic. But a moderate skeptic. I still believe that it's worth searching for knowledge even though one can never know anything for sure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I don't have any experience as of yet! But I've heard great things from my friends!

Interests

Oh man! So many things! I think generally I really like to make things. Crafts like knitting, crochet, macrame, beading, etc.; but also things like cooking and baking. I'm not generally a very active person, in that I don't really play any sports (fun fact about me: I've never been on an organized sports team), but I love to be outside, walking, hiking, skiing (snow and water), rollerblading, biking, and sailing!
I also love learning new things, and teaching others. Whether in a classroom or just in a conversation/discussion/argument.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now I'm reading Wheel of Time. It's an epic fantasy series that started in the 80's and is still going... I'm only on the 7th book of 13, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with a lot of time on their hands...
I'd probably say my favorite genre is fantasy, though I also really like apocalyptic dystopian literature. Things like Brave New World, 1984, Fight Club, The Handmaid's Tale. I'm not sure if Good Omens falls under that category, but I'd recommend that book to anyone.
I will admit, I also like Henry James, and authors like him. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I find the dry humor so much fun because I feel like I'm being let in on an inside joke.

As for movies, I like films that are smart. They might make me laugh, or trigger an existential crisis, but I like feeling like there was thought put into the making of the movie. I like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Inception, Paprika, Lola Rent, Pulp Fiction, The Princess Bride, Spirited Away...
That being said, I can also appreciate a good terrible movie. Sometimes you just need to watch something that is so awful it's hilarious. Which is why I need to watch more Mystery Science Theater 3000.

While I'm a very musical person (I'm likely to break into song at any moment) I don't really have many music preferences. I really like oldies. Especially since it's not a static genre, which makes it fascinating. But I'm pretty sure no matter how old you are, I like what you consider to be oldies.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to knit, crochet a bit, origami, cook, and probably a bunch of other things. I also have a ton of random trivia in my head that is of no real use usually, but sometimes it's fun to know things. I love to teach and learn, I believe the two go hand in hand, which is why I'm studying to become a teacher or professor.
