About Me

Recently changed lifestyle and decided to walk in many different places. Started with the GR11, the Spanish side of the walk across the Pyrénées, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.

I have now been on the move for 4.5 years, exploring different options, done quite a bit of house-sitting and many hikes. I have not used couchsurfing except in Penang where the group is active on a daily basis for meals, friends, not accommodation.
I have a FB profile: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009743590295 and a page of our travels (which I have now transferred onto a website to easily find our older posts) :

www.jjonthemove.com

is our newly-posted website with photos and short texts of our trips.
In the summer of 2018, I have cycled along the Danube from Donaueschingen to 50 km east of Bratislava.

Backpacked around Latin America over 30 years ago and met John, my Australian husband there (still around and travelling with me) ; https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/john-barclay.

Over the years, we have hosted many people we've met along the way and even more friends of our three (now adult) children, but not within Couchsurfing.

I love cooking and am really happy going to markets, food stores, being in a kitchen, and sampling local treats (profile photo is in Levain bakery in NYC, the best cookies I have tasted). Getting used to much simpler fares and gas cooker food, camping and light (in weight, as I am carrying it) food.

I get hiccups if I eat bread on its own, it puzzles everyone around me that I keep on doing it but cannot resist a good, crunchy slice of bread - although I do try to eat it with cheese or chocolate, depending on the time of day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the spirit, having heard of it through friends, meeting new people.

Music, Movies, and Books

very eclectic music styles but I must say, I have not followed what has been happening in the past three years...

very eclectic choice of films, All about Eve, French comedies of the 60s and 70s, Some like it hot, Silverado, screwball comedies, Jim Jarmusch, the Coen Brothers etc.
TV series such as Bron/Broen, Borgen, Forbrydelsen, Bosch, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, The Americans, Californication, Real Humans. Have not had a TV for almost 20 years but caught up on DVDs/internet.

Books, too many to recall, Rosa Candida (Audur Ava Olafsdottir), charm and tenderness, Anne Wiazemsky, Arnaldur Indridasson, Michael Connelly, Ismail Kadaré, Margaret Atwood, Jørn Riel, Un long chemin, Hotel Lutetia etc. and - of course - cookbooks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I suppose walking the GR11 (which I referred to as having done my military service, carrying a big backpack, walking 6-10 hours/day for 5 weeks, sleeping with snorers in refuges and eating so-so food) could qualify.
Also, in a way, uprooting and getting rid of most of our possessions (kids photos albums safely in storage) in our mid-fifties to "get on the move" and going back to the lifestyle of our early 20s.
