Overview
About Me
Hi there! My name is Jess and I just finished my undergraduate degree studying Human Geography at the University of British Columbia. I'm an open, queer friendly, and equality oriented individual looking for kind, caring, and like-minded people to stay with! Unfortunately at this time as I am entering a transition period where I won't have a permanent residence I am unable to host anyone, but I do hope to be able to return the hospitality and generosity of the hosting community in the future!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm interested in making new friends, gaining some local insight into the areas I will be exploring as well as actually meeting people from the communities I'll be visiting. In the past I have done the big Europe trip of staying in Hostels and only meeting the international travelling community. I thoroughly believe that people are what create place, and so how can I understand a place without meeting and getting to know it's inhabitants?!
Interests
Throughout my University career I've been interested in issues surrounding environmental and social justice. I as well love the outdoors and spend a lot of my spare time hiking, kayaking, sailing, cycle touring and mountain biking. Beyond all this however, I am always up for trying new things. Recent activities I've attempted are rock climbing, surfing, kiting, beer brewing, and pottery making. I'm super enthusiastic and am always looking for new and fun things to try! I'm not all about adrenaline either, I love to take it easy and relax by reading, drinking tasty beer, beach combing and playing the ukulele!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had an incredible opportunity to live in Haida Gwaii, a remote community in Northern British Columbia, where I studied First Nation resource management and politics and as well worked in the forestry industry as a forest engineer. Since living in an off the grid community I became interested in subsistence and simple living as well as community development and community building! This is also where I surfed for my first time in the stormy and snowy Hecate Strait. So cool!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I love to cook and bake and I make some mean fried bread!
