About Me

My name is Jessica, or Jess and I'm in my last year of studying a Bachelor of Arts degree, double-majoring in History and French at the University of Auckland. I'm an optimistic person who always looks for the positive in any situation!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couch surfing in order to meet some awesome locals and get to learn a bit about their culture. It is also a great way to get a honest, down to earth experience of the city, which is invaluable. Couchsurfing offers an insight into the local lifestyle and people which you don't get when you are caught in the travelling/backpacking/hostelling bubble. Being a student I am not so worried about comfort and will be happy so long as there is a roof over my head and good company to be had!

Interests

I love music, particularly Jazz and live music gigs. I also play a couple of instruments and really get a kick out of being part of any musical group, however I am less a fan of improv! My favourite sports are anything outdoorsy. Since I was young I have been hiking and camping with my family and when I was a little older I learnt how to ski. Being in nature is so calming and reminds you of what is important in life! My number one ultimate favourite thing to do however is going to the beach.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm currently going through a beat phase, so loving Jack Keroac and the Beatles and all the old 60's stuff. In my opinion the beat generation needs a revival!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The catalyst for numerous wonderful things was making the life altering decision to go on a Uni exchange. I left New Zealand in January 2015 for the adventure of a life time and that has led to amazing friends and opportunities which I would otherwise never have dreamed of!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can sort of teach English (casual or formal, or not at all if you prefer!) and very basic French as that is my second language! I would love to learn about local cooking and secrets about the city which are not necessarily in the guide books. Things like the best coffee shop or where to find the best view of the city. Also I would love to learn Italian.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a knack for making a mean tuna pasta thing (thanks to my lovely Italian friends!) I am also more than happy to share travel tales, or any tales at all! I hope we can share many good memories together.
