About Me

I was born in Cape Town and live here as well. I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2014 with a Bachelors in Anthropology and History (I’m also currently studying psychology). I work as a photographer and am mostly interested in portraiture. I shoot all my personal work on medium format and large format film cameras. My biggest loves are music, film, photography, writing, hiking, books, exploring, meeting new people, art. I would love to explore galleries, cinemas, book stores, coffee shops. I think the best way to get to know a new place is by walking it.

I'm very much a people's person. I love hearing people's life stories and connecting on a deeper level with individuals. I'm a bit more on the introverted side of the spectrum, but I very much enjoy being around new people and trying new things.

LGBTQIA+ friendly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like to meet new people. I really don't want to get to know new places and surroundings through tourist guides, so I'm looking to make friends who share similar interests, who may be able to show me around, and who I can explore and collaborate with.

Interests

Music and all things related to it (writing, listening, creating, discovering), movies (one of my favourite pastimes), writing (I like to journal—I'm not too sure if that counts as writing, but perhaps writing will follow one day), reading and discovering new books (I love book shops, meeting people that love books, finding and discovering new books, being challenged in the way that I think), hiking, coffee shops, spending time in nature, meditation.

Essentially I am a fan of anything that is artistic/creative. I love the creative process, and finding out different ways of approaching it. Whether it be dance, photography, art, music,—and I know that these are all very wide and general terms—and so forth, I'm always wanting to discover new things and new ways of seeing things.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is a difficult question to answer. My tastes and what I like change on a daily basis. But off the top of my head it would have to be Ethel Cain, Big Thief, Rosalia, SZA, Mahler, Bach, Arcade Fire, Angel Olsen, Beach House, Tame Impala, Philip Glass, Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, The Beatles, Darkside, David Bowie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Fleet Foxes, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Brahms, Nicolas Jaar, Radiohead, Patti Smith, Weyes Blood, The National, etc.

Favourite movies off the top of my head would have to be Pan's Labyrinth, A Separation, Incendies, Amores Perros, Her, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Oldboy, Interstellar, No Country for Old Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien, In the Mood for Love, The Great Beauty, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Brooklyn, Mustang, Fargo, Prisoners, Wild Tales, The Devil's Backbone, American Beauty, The Look of Silence, The Act of Killing, Wings of Desire, Inglourious Basterds, Synechsoche New York, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Arrival, Children of Men, Portrait of A Lady On Fire, Carol, All About My Mother, Volver, The Secret In Their Eyes, Midsommar, Minari, The Worst Person in the World, The Handmaiden, Minari, Parasite, Chungking Express, Happy Together, Wall-E, Up, Booksmart, Ladybird, Frances Ha,

I really like the writing of WG Sebald a lot—his books Austerlitz and The Rings of Saturn are very important to me. I'm a huge Patti Smith fan—I loved Just Kids and M Train (and I saw her live in Berlin in 2017!). Rebecca Solnit’s A Field Guide to Getting Lost and The Faraway Nearby. Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body and Other Parties and In the Dream House. Maggie Nelson’s Bluets. Ocean Vuong’s On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is one of my favorite books.
