ABOUT ME

I'm new to the valley this year, having just started working on my PhD in English Composition and Rhetoric. As an English major who never looked back, I actually haven't (yet) ever regretted it, either. I really like academia, but I really hate academic pretension. Lately I've been getting more politically motivated, thanks to OWS, SOPA, Syria and the like. It's getting hard not to be.

Interests

The things I'd call my actual hobbies include film photography (mostly with old 35mm or 120mm cameras), writing short fiction and occasionally poetry, listening to and appreciating good music, and going out for drinks/fun times. I'm also really in to travel, and really enjoy going on an adventure somewhere new or exciting once in awhile. I really enjoy walking and hiking and exploring outside (originally being from Maine, it's kind of hard not to).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rolling in to New Orleans around 2 AM last Christmas Eve while on a road trip with some amazing friends.
Gallivanting around New York City with yet another dear friend, drinking and writing poetry.
Letting my students decide to craft their own final essay assignments this semester. One student made a youtube video of herself singing, one made a blog about the interrobang, one dressed in a different stereotypical clothing style each day for a week, and all of them generally blew my mind.
