About Me

You can call me Jess. :)

I am an aspiring world traveler and digital nomad entrepreneur.

I decided to quit the 9-5 work life I had in Boston when I realized that i was not the kind of lifestyle for me. I am currently working as an English teacher in Seoul, Korea!

I love meeting new people and learning about where they come from and what they think their truth in the world is. I sit on the cusp between extroversion and introversion, so I
try to vibe well with others as much as I can.

My friends often describe me as a very positive, curious and outgoing person. Love exploring different parts of big cities and trying out new dishes wherever I go! I crave for heart-filled, thought-provoking, intellectual conversations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to grow and help others grow as much as I can. I aspire to meet many other amazing, inspiring human beings during my travels and connect with them over their stories and dreams. I look forward to sharing knowledge, ideas, opinions, stories, jokes, memories, and laughter with the people I meet on Couchsurfing.

Interests

Things I am passionate about/enjoy: foreign languages (learning Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese), BollyX (Bollywood-inspired fitness dance classes), books (Goodreads, anyone?), art, digital media, punny jokes, 4 hour naps, feminism, fashion, spoken word poetry, stand up comedy, photography, and Sherlock.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I have volunteered as tribute to do my first 3 meter dive into the swimming pool.

- I explored parts of Buenos Aires, Shanghai, and Hong Kong on my own before. Making friends with locals and carrying on long conversations with them in their native languages. All of my travel experiences have been amazing, really.

- I am making it in the real world in Boston on my own!

- I wrote my first poem and read it at a spoken word poetry event at my college. As someone who's soft-spoken and has had anxiety issues speaking in the public, this was a huge accomplishment for me.

- I am currently working on a podcast series for empowering Asian/Asian American women.

- I work as a freelance content creator. My creations are some of my proudest moments. Check out my work on byjessicanguyen.com!

- I founded an underground community newsletter, which published an article that changed the lives of many in my hometown.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to... speak phrases in different languages (English, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Spanish), create digital content (I am pretty tech savvy so that includes website design, blogging, photo editing, and videography), play piano, cook Vietnamese food, sketch, and paint watercolor.

I want to learn... to cook and bake dishes from other cultures, dance Latin/South Asian, speak Italian and Japanese (any foreign language, really), plant gardens, participate in winter sports (skiing and snowboarding) and water sports (surfing, scuba diving, and sailing).

I want to share... stories, writing/poetry, songs, jokes/puns, silence...
