HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have both surfed, done a little hosting, and been to some CS events. Host when I can and am up for meeting up with travellers for a coffee n what-not and hopefully imparting some insiders knowledge on the city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm relatively new to the couch surfing community, but the experiences I've had with it thus far while travelling through North America have been awesome! I've met some amazing people (both slept on their couch or just met for a drink) who have always pointed me in the direction of cool local goings-on.

Interests

Enjoy live music, road trips and/or camping with some hiking thrown in for good measure (hanging out with nature in general), mushrooms/bugs, the beach, monkeys, climbing trees, cycling (especially down hill, and passed chumps caught in traffic), cups of tea, coffee, reading (especially in the park on a sunny day), sleeping too much (especially on rainy days), exhibitions/theatre 'n whatnot, people watching, meandering throughout foreign lands, board games, jigsaw puzzles, hunting down the good eateries in different towns, sitting on porches, lying in hammocks, etc etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

For the music side of things: punk/garage/ska/indie/folk/etc. In no particular order… Patti Smith, PJ Harvey; Dead Kennedys, Vivian Girls, Santigold, Jay Reatard, Pixies, Bjork, Antony and the Johnsons, David Bowie, Beach House, Bikini Kill, The Julie Ruin, Grimes, Desmond Dekker, Teeth & Tongue, Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, New Order, Gogol Bordello, Bob Dylan, Sufjan Stevens, L7, Wild Flag, Bon Iver, Operation Ivy, The Pogues, Joy Division, Wooden Shjips, Kate Bush, Gillian Welch, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, McLusky, Warpaint, etc.

Love black comedy, arthouse, doco's, animation and especially love a good series - see Curb Your Enthusiasm, Breaking Bad, Daria, Black Books, Six Feet Under, David Attenborough etc. Movies are also awesome. Ie - Pans Labyrinth, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, The Life Aquatic, Wasteland, Let the Right One In, Spirited Away etc.

And as for books - some of my favourites include, A Short History of Nearly Everything (among other Bill Bryson books), Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Bell Jar, Animal Farm, The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night-Time, Oryx and Crake trilogy, biographies, history books, picture books...and the like.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm just starting to learn about permaculture, beekeeping and know how to knit somewhat, but I'm definitely not at a level to teach any of this (actually anything you can add to my knowledge on these subjects - or anything else for that matter - would be greatly appreciated)! I majored in zoology, so do know some cool animal facts.
