The cones on true fir trees and true cedars (e.g. Deodars and Cedars of Lebanon) stand upright on the branches. Cones on false firs (e.g. Douglas Firs) and cedars, as well as on pines, hang down from the branch.
Soil in moist, shady areas, like woodlands, is usually acidic. Soil in hot, sunny areas is more alkaline.
Clay has the most nutrients of all soil types, but plants cannot easily access the nutrients in clay because it is so dense.
