About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Να μάθω ελληνικά!

ABOUT ME

I am 24 years old and a native of Michigan,USA. I have had the luck to be able to travel all over the world and live in both Germany and China as well. I love music, meeting new people (although I am somewhat shy), and try to live healthily. I also love adventure, and try to steer clear of the road most traveled, even though I get a lot of stress from my family and friends for doing so. I also love foreign languages and am damn good at learning them if I do say so myself :) I can speak fluent German, am very proficient in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, pretty good at French, and currently learning Dutch and Portuguese. I am always excited to learn new languages, so don't be surprised if I request that we only speak in your language when I'm visiting. I can only get better in I practice! I could lie and say that I enjoy helping others with their English, but that's unfortunately not true, at least when I'm not in the U.S. When I'm traveling, I really want to use that time to improve my language skills, although I'm happy to tell you about the American culture and the cultures of other countries that I've lived in :)

PHILOSOPHY

I was raised Catholic but I would consider myself agnostic as of now. I don't deny the possibility of some higher power, but honestly I'm not sure and I don't feel like thinking about it too hard.
I've decided I don't want nor do I need the "better" things in life. I enjoy just being outside with nothing but the clothes on my back and the world to explore ahead of me.
I believe life is too short to take ourselves to seriously, and that love and friendship are the most valuable things a person could ever have.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think it is a great opportunity to really get to know the places that I stay. If I were to stay in a hotel and take the typical tourist approach, I would miss so much that only a native can show you.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to couch surfing, hoping to get some great experiences out of it!

Interests

I wrote about it above already, but I love foreign languages :) I also am very passionate about the environment. I am an avid litter picker-uper, so don't be surprised if we're walking around and I stoop down to pick up some garbage to through it away. I also love music. I really am into German music, like Cro, Seeed, Ich & ich, etc., but I also like lots of other music; just ask. I can play the piano and dabble in guitar. I love being outside, biking, walking, hiking, and camping. I also really like to bake!

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't like horror movies! Except for occasional ghost ones.
I love to read, although I don't do it that often. The classic mainstream stuff like Hunger Games, HP, etc., but also Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, and other great authors of previous centuries.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've traveled to several different countries, my favorite of which has been China. I've spent about two months there altogether, and have many friends there.
My favorite places in North America are the wild North (Canada, especially Ontario and Quebec), and Ohio, which I think is a beautiful state.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have traveled extensively in my young life. This past summer I spent the whole summer in Beijing, China. It was the best summer of my life and has helped foster in me a love for travel and people.
I am a self-proclaimed linguist. I know about nine languages proficiently, and I am learning others on the side. I am always happy to share my love for languages with others!
I also love music and I would love to jam with anyone interested; my preferred instrument is the piano.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Me and my friends really love to cook. Now, I am not any expert chef, but I can make the basics like good old classic American pie and pizza. I'd like to learn how to cook other dishes as well!
