About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see the world, meet new people, learn new things

ABOUT ME

I was an English teacher in Taiwan. I love math, NASCAR, and learning new things. I love to travel, and am working on improving my Spanish. I try to learn other languages as well, but often only get so far before something else takes my attention away. I love instruments - I play the flute and piccolo, and fiddle around on the keyboard and guitar, but I also have a violin, harmonica, ocarina, some recorders, and probably a few others. I like doing crafts, though I have a difficult time finishing projects. I do macrame, stained glass, cross-stitching, etc.

PHILOSOPHY

Try anything and everything at least once. Keep an open mind about everything. Never do wrong to anyone. Don't judge things too quickly (or at all). Put yourself first (working on it...). Explore!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I introduced my friend, Vira, to the site, thinking it was right up her alley and joined myself a while later. I've been to a few CS events, and have surfed a few couches. I have had long periods of inactivity because I have been unable to host for a while.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfed in Northampton, MA; Taipei, Taiwan; Taichung, Taiwan; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Hong Kong; Mumbai, India; Delhi, India; Shimla, India. Met some CSers at a get-together in Taipei (in the woods, there was a couch involved), and at a bar twice (also in Taipei). Also, I lived with two Couchsurfers, so anyone they have hosted I have also indirectly hosted, which includes people from the US, Ireland, Taiwan, Canada, Denmark and others...

Interests

NASCAR, math, logic puzzles, trying new things, traveling... I like trying to learn and teach myself new things, and I'm currently working on cross-stitching, Traditional Mandarin, and playing guitar.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Sheryl Crow, Taylor Swift, Blue October, Panic! at the Disco, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, and lots of other stuff, but I don't listen to music on a regular basis. I love The Notebook, Moulin Rouge, Anchorman, The Holiday, Catch Me If You Can... I'm a big fan of comedies, and I love Will Ferrell. I also really enjoy Man vs. Wild and think Bear Grylls is one of the coolest people alive. I loved reading Harry Potter, and Eat, Pray, Love.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moved to Taiwan... well, no, the move wasn't nearly as big of a deal as telling my family that I was leaving the country was! Riding an elephant in Thailand. Scuba diving on Koh Tao, scooter road trip in northern Thailand, India, St. Basil's Cathedral.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you with math, English, or (limited) Spanish, and I guess I could also teach you how to cross-stitch and how to draw SpongeBob SquarePants (students LOVE this)... I love learning pretty much anything.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahrain, China, Ecuador, India, Malaysia, Peru, Philippines, Russian Federation, Thailand, United Arab Emirates

Countries I’ve Lived In
