About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm attending a vipassana medititation course outside of Toronto at the beginning of May, before I fly to Peru for a few weeks. I haven't been on couchsurfing for a while, and I'm not sure how active it is anymore, so I'm going to leave my profile as is.

ABOUT ME

Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Pinophyta
Class: Pinopsida
Order: Pinales
Family: Cupressaceae
Genus: Sequoiadendron
Species: S. giganteum

DISCLAIMER: I'm not ACTUALLY a tree. I'm a student in Winnipeg, Canada. I like to travel and I like to read I don't pretend to know things I don't. I'm not pretentious. I'm down to earth. I'm painfully fair. I can metaphorically roll with the figurative punches...so to speak. I am occasionally a writer.

PHILOSOPHY

“I will try, like them
to be my own silence:
and this is difficult. The whole
world is secretly on fire. The stones
burn, even the stones they burn me.
How can a man be still or
listen to all things burning?
How can he dare to sit with them
when all their silence is on fire?”

-Thomas Merton

Music, Movies, and Books

This year I've read Fahrenheit 451, and Something Wicked this way Comes, by Ray Bradbury, as well as a collection of his essays on writing, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, Narcissus and Goldmund by Herman Hesse, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Breakfast of Champions by Vonnegut, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, and a book of poetry by Pablo Neruda. Possibly a few others I'm missing. I like the classics.
