About Me

Hi, I'm Ji Hyun. I am workig as a translator for German and English. I'm currently located at the heart of Seoul, at about 10 minutes walking distance from Konkuk University. You get to anywhere in Seoul within 30 min. via subway, bus etc - not to mention that the area itself is much fun with many bars, several clubs, restaurants targeting the young population nearby.

Personally I am outgoing, funny, active and love to meet new people. I love music and parties, theatrical plays, movies and walking all around & exploring Seoul. I'd be happy to share some tips and insights for travelling here, we can also hang out if you want of course.

I grew up in Germany and am fluent in German and English. I can communicate in basic French as well, but English is preferred since my reading skills are limited. Also, I can only host one person at a time due to the size of my place so please note that I cannot answer in case you are two or more people.

Even if you are not looking for a host - if you are located in Seoul and looking for new friends or language exchange - don't hesitate to contact me for I am always open to meeting people. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As mentioned - I love meeting new people. Also I believe that one's boundary is widened when meeting new people from all over the world, especially people from different cultural backgrounds. Also I understand that travelling can be costly, especially for young people - which was a major reason I couldn't travel around as much as I wanted. So feel free to contact me if you'd like good company in Seoul(or just a free place to stay, that's also fine.)

Interests

theater, music, hanging out with friends, travelling. I also love to ride motorcycles, I even have a class 2 license for bigger ones.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I have many favourites across different genres, but nowadays I'm digging some Korean indie bands such as 가을방학(Autumn Holiday), MOT, 옥상달빛(Moonshine on rooftop), 10cm a.s.o.

Movies - Hedwig And The Angry Inch, Shortbus, 은하해방전선(Milky Way Liberation Front)

Books - A Report on the Banality of Evil(Hannah Arendt), Demian(Hermann Hesse), Revolutionary ideas of Karl Marx(Alexander Theodore Callinicos)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking on Mount Sinai in Egypt - Starting at 2am, I never saw sooooo many stars in the sky. It was as if just pieces of heaven were on a carpet of stars, there were so many of them. When I reached the top, it was 6am and the sun was just starting to rise from the horizon...it was just wonderful.

Recently I visited Kota Kinabalu and had the chance to try parasailing, as well as doing the infamous 'firefly tour' in Weston. There were more fireflies on those jungle trees than light bulbs on a Christmas tree - some experience I'll never forget!

Also I am an enthusiastic motorcycle rider and used to ride long distances every weekend - from Seoul to the Southern beaches in Gyeongsangnam-do, to remote mountain roads in Gangwon-do and wide, straight roads down near Seohaean. Every tour leads to an unseen sight and new experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you are located in Seoul - I can do language exchange. Since my occupation is closely related to language, I am confident that I can provide good insights for not only speaking, but for reading and writing as well. (I am interested in learning Spanish and French by the way, as well as maintaining & expanding German and English) Also, I am very much interested in all kinds of art and always know how to enjoy a good time in Seoul. I know many places where you can eat good stuff, do some sightseeing in places only locals know, how to do some good & reasonably priced shopping etc. So if you want some good company or are searching for a friend in Seoul, feel free to contact me :)
