Overview
About Me
Hi there! I am CHEN Jiaxu (in Chinese “xu” pronounces like “shyoo” in English, call me Jerry if you cannot pronounce it). I am Chinese, and I am studying in Hong Kong. I am an undergraduate studying statistics and risk management (in my university this major is similar to financial mathematics).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I believe that the best way to explore a city is to chat with local people. They will share their lives so that I can learn how a city changes in years. Also, they can give some travel advice to make my experience local. I love exchanging cultures and fun facts in different cultures.
Interests
I am a passionate backpacker. I have never stopped my pace to explore this enormous and fascinating world. So far, I have travelled to more than 20 countries or regions on 4 continents. My favourite travel destinations are Samarkand, Uzbekistan and Zlatibor, Serbia.
I am really into progressive rock music. My favourites are Pink Floyd and their albums The Dark Side of the Moon and Meddle. Though old-fashioned, they are worth listening to due to the epic rhythms and impressive lyrics.
Moreover, I am a Chinese Weiqi (Go) player. I am an advanced amateur with the ranking of Amateur 3 Dan (业余3段). My favourite Weiqi player is GU Li (古力).
I am also a transportation fan. I am keen on trains and aircrafts.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like progressive rock, especially Pink Floyd. I also listen to some music from Beatles and Queens.
For books, I read Chinese classics in my childhood, and I’m trying to read western classics after I enter the university (eg. Republic, Symposium, Decameron, and some contemporary literature).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have ever done volunteer jobs for OSCEWI (Ourlady Sickle Cell Education Warrior Initiative) in Uganda for 2 months. I met a lovely primary school and worked as a teacher there. The students were curious about the outside world, and I enjoyed living with them.
Teach, Learn, Share
Let’s discuss if we have common interests. I will tell you something about China, this mysterious eastern country, if you are interested.
