About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Philadelphia native for 20 years and now steadily heading west!

ABOUT ME

I am a swing dancer, "enthusiastic" cook and full-time doggie daddy.

I travel both to experience new cultures and also to Eat All the Things. My most recent trip was in 2012 to Singapore, Thailand and China where I learned all about iron-fisted city-states, Buddhism and shadow economies. I also helped greatly reduce the local populations of fish, crabs, coconuts and mangos.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Brand new to all this - was introduced by a friend and it seems like a fantastic idea!

Interests

I am fascinated by the "how" and "why" of things.

Recently, I read the book "Rework" that suggests what many already suspect: the classic ways of running a business are wasteful and demoralizing. Meetings are toxic. Inspiration is perishable. The question then becomes "how can we do this better?"

I also drive my dog crazy by constantly examining her behavior. She came to me as a stray with absolutely no training. Hali and I now volunteer at dog rescue events. She obeys voice commands and is a sweetheart with kids. Why certain methods work with certain dogs is still a mystery to me but it's one I'm trying to figure out. I believe that any dog can be a "good dog" and the limit is only defined by the dedication of the handler.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode horses in Horqin (Inner Mongolia) with three of my cousins. We stayed in yurts with some local folks who knew my grandparents from way back in the day. There were endless green steppes, herds of sheep and no hint at all that any other world existed.

Countries I’ve Visited
