About Me

I am a musician by profession and an independent photographer. I am also the co-founder of an initiative called OK! North East, a portal that helps travelers get information about Northeast India. (www.oknortheast.com | www.fb.com/NorthEastindia)

I have homes in Guwahati (Assam), Umiam (Meghalaya), and Shergaon (Arunachal Pradesh), and I divide my time between these three places throughout the year.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why not? It's the best way to express love and kindness. In Northeast India, we've been hosting strangers for thousands of years. For us, guests bring good fortune (though I believe more in friendship and fun than luck). Couchsurfing has been one of the best ways to form friendships and make this world a more livable place.

I love traveling and enjoy helping fellow travelers. I said TRAVELERS, not tourists—mind you! 😀

My place is strictly for travelers who are keen on exploring Northeast India. If you're interested in learning about the unexplored and offbeat parts of this region, my place is yours, and I'll be happy to provide you with information and details. Sometimes, if I'm free and I like you enough, I might even take you to the Sacred Grove, the Root Bridges, the Floating Lake, the Whispering Forest, or on a 2-hour trek to some hidden waterfalls in the hills. I also have a small house near Umiam Lake, where we might end up enjoying live music, wine by the bonfire, and some pork.

However, if you're just here to waste time indoors with little to no interest in exploring my beautiful land or getting to know the local tribes, well, why are you even in the Northeast?

I love exchanging cultures and making new friends. Let me tell you, you'll be surprised by some of the unique aspects of the Northeast that may seem unfamiliar to people from other parts of India. For example, the all-women market in Manipur, the matriarchal and matrilineal societies of Meghalaya, the absence of a dowry system across the region, the unmanned markets of Mizoram, the Magic Village called Mayong, and the floating lake in Manipur. There's a lot to discover.

I don't mind you prying into my personal life as long as we're friends. I generally don't ask too many questions about your personal life unless you're willing to share. But the chance to learn new things about the world through meeting people is the whole reason I'm on Couchsurfing.

What could be better than having friends all over the world?

Interests

Well, life is interesting. Everything I do, I do for passion. I don't like wasting time on things that don't interest me, and the biggest one of all is the typical '9-to-6 job.'

I can work 36 hours straight if needed, especially if the task is interesting and challenging. But I can also watch five movies in a row or read an entire Dan Brown novel in one sitting if there's nothing exciting to work on.

I find people interesting, particularly travelers and vagabonds. They tend to be honest and straightforward. If you're someone who enjoys a good conversation, I can chat for hours on a variety of topics—so long as the conversation is meaningful and I'm learning something new.

I love animals, and my house is full of them. Most of my canine and feline companions were rescued from the streets in deplorable conditions. Do you love animals? Great, I love you too. ☺️

My friends, who are like family to me, often visit for bonfires and barbecues during the winter or for some live music on my terrace. Evenings are usually fun. Since most of my friends are musicians or music lovers and generally warm people, you'll probably connect with them and might end up spending the whole night singing, sipping wine, and talking. You're welcome to join my family anytime.

I also find nature fascinating and inspiring. I loathe people who constantly destroy it—yes, that includes me too. 😊 But I'm talking more about littering. I want to keep Northeast India clean. So please, don't litter when you visit my home. 🚯

This is just a small glimpse of me. I'll tell you more if we spend time together—and only if we find each other interesting. 😇 You're always welcome to my abode!

Oh! Did I mention my music? We'll talk about that too... 🎸👨‍🎤"

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bed, food, and friendship.

Free accommodation in Guwahati for travelers and backpackers who are not residing in India and are interested in learning about the people and culture of Northeast India.

In case my CouchSurfing space is full, I can offer Bed & Breakfast at one of the first Travelers' Hostels in Guwahati for just Rs 350 per person. This is for emergencies only.

If you're planning to travel to Arunachal Pradesh, let me know. I can arrange accommodation for up to 8 people in Shergaon, one of the most beautiful places. You can enjoy trekking, hiking, fishing, camping in the jungles, birdwatching, and more.

(Now that you've read this far, just to confirm that you've gone through everything on my profile, please include the word 'alien' somewhere in your message to me.😊)

Oh, by the way, you'll need a permit to travel to certain areas (states) of Northeast India. This link might help with your travel plans: http://www.oknortheast.com/p/permits-for-north-east-indian-states.html
