It's university holidays so I'm leaving the Australian summer behind for the chance to explore wintery North America.

ABOUT ME

I teach English lit and creative and academic writing at an Australian university. I love writing stories and I have a passion for history, especially eleventh century Norman and Byzantine stuff. I love DC Comics, Twin Peaks, classic Russian writers, and Frank Zappa. I first fell in love with travelling when I went to New Zealand and six months in Iceland made travel a passion. I once followed the route of the First Crusade through Turkey and Israel to research a story.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Smuggling cigarettes and whiskey in kangaroo pouches to various outback couchsurfing rave parties.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfed in Turkey and Israel back in the early 2010s and it was great. Those were some of the best travelling experiences of my life and some of those hosts are still my good friends. Now I am out and about on holiday again.

Interessi

Writing manuscripts and silly radio plays, reading literature and comic books. I own a few too many Doctor Who, Star Trek, and James Bond blu rays. I may own multiple suits of armour but I swear I got them for research. I'm a sucker for a castle or a Byzantine church. Mosaics make me tingle.

Musica, film e libri

Dostoevsky, Chekov, the Brontes, Camus, Austen, Pushkin, 'The Thousand Nights and One Nights', 'Journey to the West' and plenty of others. Movie-wise, David Lynch is a god. TV-wise, too, because 'Twin Peaks'. Music, well, Frank Zappa is always on top. Andrews Sisters, Sun Ra, Philip Glass, Tom Waits, Melvins, Frank Sinatra. Then more Zappa.
