About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spend as much time as possible doing nothing

ABOUT ME

I haven't really done much in my life. But then, that's the whole idea, isn't it?

PHILOSOPHY

Governments are throwing more and more money at this whole environment thing. I figure it's very good for the economy--the scientists they pay for use up more resources, drive their SUV's to the lab and eat up lumber for computer print-outs. What no one seems to be willing to accept is that the only way we are going to save the environment is by consuming less. I'm contributing my bit by endeavouring to spend as much time as possible doing nothing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once I make my millions I'm going to have a guest house that'll accommodate 20 surfers at once.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I let two hikers sleep over in my Washington D.C. apartment so they could see the city. I stayed in my friend's apartment in Exeter on a trip to Europe last year and then stayed in my ex-girlfriend's apartment in Bremen. While on a bike tour, I stayed in my cousin's apartment in exchange for mowing the lawn.

Interests

Hiking, cross-country skiing, bicycle racing and touring, weight-lifting, martial arts, climbing, running. Also philosophy, reading, writing, science, computer programming.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To keep up with this whole nothing theme, I once went sailing in the North Sea. We spent the whole time lazing on deck, drinking beer, smoking cigarettes and toking up. Now that was some hard-core slacking. Another great place for doing nothing is the Appalachian Trail--slacker's paradise, I tell you. I just need to figure out how to get rid of that whole heavy-pack/walking ten miles a day thing. It sure is exhausting. I think my next goal is to do the whole thing without hiking a single step.

Teach, Learn, Share

Anyone interested in going bicycle touring? I would like to cycle the length of Eurasia. In my first abortive attempt, I only made it to Darmstadt. Currently I am indulging in the four-letter "w" word, but if I can find a suitable partner to help the miles pass more smoothly, I hope to be free to continue my travels by early May.
