About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get back to my creative side.

ABOUT ME

Prefer conversation to partying. Love movies, books, politics, animals, nature, gardening. Love tackling any new languages I come across, though they invariably pin me to the mat. Don't drink, am allergic to cigarette smoke. Have no sense of direction, am terrified of flying--in short, a bad traveller in most ways, but always yearning to do more of it. Am 46 years old and have no idea how that happened.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just started. Currently unable to host, but will as soon as I have the situation to. Wish I'd known about CS all those years when I was living by myself in a house near Vancouver. Would love to have hosted all these interesting CS people!

Music, Movies, and Books

Most well-written, well-acted movies. (Star Wars Episode IV; Brokeback Mountain; The Constant Gardener; Stage Beauty; The Philadelphia Story; All the President's Men, etc) Well-crafted TV shows (The Good Wife, The West Wing, The Office) and others (Greek, The Big Bang Theory). British TV is better than NAmerican...loved watching the National Hedgerowing Championships, last time I was in London! Books: children's books, Golden Age murder mysteries, any novels with a sense of humour (Barney's Version, Breaking Smith's Quarter Horse, Helen De Witt's The Last Samurai)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On the way back from covering a Chicago Bulls game, when I was writing on basketball back in the early 1990s, I saw a wolverine from the train window, travelling through Michigan. They are supposed to be extinct there, but I know a wolverine when I see a wolverine, and this was a wolverine. In Michigan.

Teach, Learn, Share

Um...thinking, thinking. To deepen the chocolate flavour in baked goods such as chocolate cake and cookies, add a teaspoon or two of either espresso powder or (more readily available) instant coffee grounds.
