About Me

Hi, I'm Jiyi, 24, and from South Korea.
I lived in the US for 1 year when I was in high school.

I can definitely say that I tried my best to live my life to its fullest after getting into college in 2013.
Being involved in a lot of different activities such as singing in a band, performing in musicals, working out, and volunteering, I could meet new people, broaden my perspective, and become a better person.

*I'm very energetic, polite and caring.*
Meeting new people and learning about their interests and life experiences makes me happy. So when I see any foreign students or travelers having trouble, I help them and give my messenger ID saying that they can ask me for help anytime they want. I believe in the power of good will.

*Performing on stage is one of my biggest passion.*
Since high school, I performed in musicals, plays, dances and flash mobs. I also sang quite a lot of times both in choirs and a contemporary band. Getting on the stage - the whole process of emitting my energy and interacting with the audience - is fascinating. I'd love to meet someone who can share the interest in music, performance, or acting.

*I try to break my limits.*
So I try new things. Some things I previously thought I can't do. That's why I joined a workout club and started working at the gym last year. I'm not really of an athletic person but very patient and strong-willed. Last summer, I walked around the entire Jeju island (the biggest island in Korea.) in only about 17 days which was 326 km. *Walking and appreciating nature* is one of my precious hobbies. I love traveling and looking at different things. But the best among them is feeling the splendor of nature.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'll try to meet local people and see the real lives of each country instead of simply visiting tourist attractions. I'd love to feel the local culture and learn how each host I meet looks at the world.

Interests

*I try to watch one movie in a week.*
It's not possible when I'm super busy, but if not, I always watch at least one movie in a week. Some people watch movies for pure entertainment, but I prefer to find well-made films and reflect upon the hidden meanings of symbols, mise-en-scene, shots, etc. I took several elective courses on film as well. I love having conversations or discussion after watching a movie with other people. As long as the genre isn't horror or gore, I'm willing to try any type of movie if that movie is worth watching.

*Volunteering*
I try my best to spare some time and use it for other people. I have been engaged in different kinds of volunteering such as mentoring elementary/middle/high school students, helping students in rehabilitation school, cleaning, habitat for humanity(making homes) and so on. Doing something for someone else, not for myself, for at least some time of my life is important to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Forrest Gump(definitely my favorite!)

Teach, Learn, Share

*I am double majoring in Psychology and Comparative Lit&Culture.*
I'm interested in both fields so it's hard to weigh which one I'm more attracted to. Especially, I am deeply interested in counseling psychology and consider it as one of my future career potentials. I am also a huge fan of literature. Although I cannot read that often due to time constraints, getting the chance to read a masterpiece makes my life meaningful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

1. And as a guest, I'd love to share my opinions and life experiences. I can introduce what kind of country South Korea is. You can learn some Korean if you want to! lol

2. I can also make Korean food. As I have the experience of home stay in two different houses for 6 months each in the states, I know how to behave in the hosts' houses.
