ABOUT ME

In the words of Tank from the musical "Zanna Don't," "I'm a sort of charming, somewhat handsome, not-so-princely guy..." Except for the guy part, that pretty much sums me up.

I am starting my master's degree at the University of Oregon in the Department of Geological Sciences. I am a geologist looking to study volcanoes in any form with the goal of working in a volcano observatory. I just moved to Eugene this summer (2010) to start school and love my place here and the city.

I am a person that adores seeing new places and peoples and cultures, but I do need a home base to come back to, if for a couple days or a couple months.

I desperately want to be funny and to be good at music, but I am neither. I am just very nice (so they say).

PHILOSOPHY

I seek peace within me as a way to be content with myself, my surroundings, and my life.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I would love to host anyone who wants to come to Eugene, OR for any reason. I live right in the city, in between downtown and the University campus. Downtown is generally an easy walk, though going to Target or other places requires a bus/bike/or taxi, which are all very easy to use.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only had one so far - with a friend who has a profile already - in which we stayed for one night with a wonderful host in Málaga, Spain. We talked politics over homemade pasta and drew our faces to be displayed on the walls of visitors in their apartment. Lovely time.

I will listen and enjoy very seriously any type of music (I am a song/group discriminator, not music genre), but my favorites are Oldies, musicals, anything dance-y, and Latin.

I am a romantic, so I enjoy trashy romance movies and novels, though I do admit that they are not the best. As for favorite movies, I've recently seen and loved Avatar, Calendar Girls, Invictus, Sherlock Holmes, Percy Jackson, and others. I have also loved Wall-E, August Rush, Beauty and the Beast, Cars, Death at a Funeral (the British version), Howl's Moving Castle, Iron Man, The Mighty Ducks, and more. I am not a fan of horror or gore or stupidity, but have been known to sometimes watch some of those. I like most other genres.

Books are harder. My recent favorites are "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows and "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. I love the Harry Potter series and could reread them at any time. And others. My favorite poet is Emily Dickinson.

I have observed and tracked the birth, growth, and death of an ocean entry (point where lava enters the sea) on the Big Island of Hawai`i, including phreatomagmatic explosions and lava bubbles.
