I'm Julie and I'm traveling with my partner, Dustin (pictured!). We love road tripping and exploring new places and that's exactly our goal for this trip!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

a few years back I shared a house with several friends (that's Uncle John's Band, if you're looking at my friends down there on the left), one of whom often hosted couchsurfers (official and picked up off the street) on our common couch. learned how interesting strange travelers are. spent a few years in DC after that, where I was always lacking either willing housemates or a couch long enough to sleep on. Been in Carrboro since June 2012 and looking forward to getting back in the game!

兴趣

writing, hiking, and doing the Times crossword. I have many latent creative hobbies, like woodworking (a good table saw is hard to find...) drawing buildings, and playing the bass. Sometimes, you just get stuck in that 9 to 5 groove and forget about all the things you think are neat. Also reading, talking about politics and society, having picnics, cooking, exchanging music and rocking out. I really like eating things that taste transcendentally amazing... but then again, who doesn't?

currently digging Blindness by Jose Saramago, You Can't Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe, the Adventures of Tintin. The last real book I read in its entirety was Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I just got hooked on The Great Game by Peter Hopkirk. It's very swashbuckling!

man, I'm so bad at keeping these things in the front of my mind. aren't all travels amazing? don't worry, I'll have some good stories if you get me going. :)

I can teach knitting and a few advanced techniques (I am making my first adult sweater... it is the sweater of The Dude), and give swim lessons at all levels! I can lay some serious urban policy knowledge (opinions) on you. I like learning languages of all sorts & handy little skills like how to tie good knots. Ooh and I am trying to learn to drive our car, which is a manual. My boyfriend (& co-traveler/co-host) would surely appreciate someone else giving me a lesson for once.
