About Me

Hello there! My name is Josephine. Most people call me Jo.

I'm an amateur urban homesteader, writer, and independent filmmaker living in Eugene, Oregon. I was born here, but spent a lot of my childhood in Western Australia and Bali, playing in the mud and serving wild greens up to Kangaroos. I'm married to my best friend, Michael, and we have two beautiful little dogs named Olive and Spice! (I changed my first name in adulthood, so that's why some of my past reviews mention a different name).

I spend my time making yogurt from scratch, canning, cooking, thrifting, reading, gardening, creating short films, volunteering, singing, dancing and giving thanks to God for the opportunity to be alive on this amazing love-filled, life-giving, infinitely fascinating Earth!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a host, I'm looking to give refuge to the weary and provide a peaceful space for others to rest. As a guest, I'm looking to wander off the beaten path, meet new people, and experience the world without the gloss of tourism and commerce.

Interests

My interests include permaculture, gardening and agriculture, homesteading, food preservation and fermentation, foraging, intentional communities, mysticism, meditation, theology and interfaith dialogue, music, filmmaking, reading, and of course food. Lots and lots and lots of food.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Using grassroots crowdfunding and grant writing, I raised 10K for a short film set in the golden age of piracy (1715) --- we wrap shooting in June 2025, and will begin submitting to festivals at the end of the summer!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would be delighted to cook you a homemade meal, purchase groceries + essentials for your household, do the dishes, sweep the floors, help you pull weeds or tend to an outdoors project, or any other odd job I can tackle. My husband would be happy to take some portraits of you if our camera is in working order - you can even use them for this very site!

Countries I’ve Visited
