I think local people are the only ones who can provide you all the info you need when visiting their country/city, not only the most interesting places and views but curiosities, stories and so on.
My point of view is: Don't you think that you miss part of the enriching stuff if you do not contact with any local? Couchsurfing is defenitely the best way to meet locals! :)
