About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the fruits and surprises of this great world, while interacting with the diverse peoples inhabiting the land and to frolic in the natural environment...

ABOUT ME

All about us... We are a fun and happy couple, who met in Sydney and have decided to quit our jobs and travel the world instead. We have been gone since mid feb and survived wild and wonderful southern africa together... and have a further 8 months to go!

PHILOSOPHY

As with any adventure, there has been no shortage of lessons so far:
* Enjoy the surprises!
* Never don't swim! (thanks Nicko)
* We don't make plans, we only have vague intentions
* If it sounds dodgy, it probably is
* Looking ahead on a dodgy bus can be bad for your nerves
* Eat at local markets - it's a great way to interact with local people and get a bit of culture (and a cheap feed)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We only just registered so for the moment we're just exploring what this is all about and hope to meet some happy and hospitable people on our travels. We've found that you get a much more complete experience of a place when you have local connections, so couchsurfing is a great idea!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Started in June 2010,..... we are total beginners as far as this organisation is concerned, though we have both enjoyed visiting and staying with friends (or friends-of-friends) around the world (e.g. Namibia, Zambia, Vanuatu, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, just to name a few). In the same "informal" way, we have hosted numerous friends at our homes.

Interests

* Outdoor adventures - hiking, camping, cycling, paddling, mountain biking, ski touring, scuba diving and swimming in almost anything made of water :)
* Ultimate frisbee
* Music playing and listening (we're carrying a ukulele and an african thumb piano on our year-long trip)
* FOOD! eating and cooking (vego for Jodes, gluten-free for Marty, just to keep things simple :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: currently listening to lots of Lisa Mitchell, Bon Iver, Gomez, Jeff Buckley, but more broadly we're into folk music from just about anywhere, world, reggae and somtemes a bit of classical.

Books: currently reading Dark Star Safari by Paul Theroux and The Sheltering Desert by Henno Martin. Marty's also quite a fan of Salman Rushdie (esp. The Ground Beneath her Feet)

Films: a few favourites are Babel, Amelie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Gadjo Dilo, Baraka, Getting Square, Moulain Rouge, and most French comedies (just saw Le Villain on the plane)
