I'm a sixth grade teacher at a charter school here in Philadelphia. I live in a two bedroom apartment with a roommate who also graduated from Gettysburg College and also works in education.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the idea of getting a more intimate feel for local areas as I'm traveling. Saving money is a perk, as well. I love to host friends and family, and so I see this as another opportunity to do so, just with strangers (a.k.a. soon-to-be friends).

Interests

I enjoy playing soccer and other recreational sports. I don't exercise as much as I would like, but I'm trying to get back into it. I love watching new movies and reading non-fiction of interest to me. When we're able to, I cherish every moment I have with my significant other, who's busy with med school.

Music, Movies, and Books

I grew up on classic rock but am happy listening to other genres. Classical, pop, ambient, electronic, EDM, and a variety of others populate my Spotify and Pandora accounts.

My favorite movie is K-PAX with Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges. I'm a bit of a sucker for the sci fi genre. I love the mystery aspect to it as well.

My favorite book is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest. I'm an avid believer in the healing power of laughter, especially when I've recently read that book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's not amazing, but I'm very proud of my year of service with City Year, an AmeriCorps program.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some soccer tricks and speed and agility training to improve overall athletic performance. I'm fairly hand around the house and in the garage--happy to show how to change oil and rotate tires if it happens to be that time. I like cooking, but basically just follow directions.

I'd love to learn how to cook other dishes and sample other languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm not exactly sure how to answer this question. I'd be happy to share any knowledge of acquired over the years about subjects for which they'd have some utility. I clean as a way of avoiding work, so I'd happily assist with household chores. Other than that, just ask and I'll let you know if I can assist :)
