Über mich
***I get many requests everyday, I read them all and I decline 90% of them . Please make an effort; I'm bored of the same generic message from every person.***
*** I'm really busy these days. If you ask to stay at my place please don't expect that I can show you around. I will do my best and strive to make sure you have all the knowledge to get the most out of your trip but whether or not I can spend much time with you out and about in Istanbul depends. ***
*** I WILL ONLY HOST YOU FOR TWO NIGHTS. If we get along and you're desperate you may be able to stay for a little longer, but for the sake of my flatmates, two nights only. ***
--------------------------------------------------
I spend most of my time making music. I play guitar but these days I'm mainly working with modular synthesisers. I make all kinds of music, from folk music to techno. You can listen here: https://soundcloud.com/joeconchie/sets
Or, maybe this video of me playing guitar is more fun to watch: https://vimeo.com/117725689
I'm much more interested in sound design and extended techniques than conventional pop/rock music. A lot of people message me saying that they could jam with me...that's cool if you want to explore new sonic territory but if you're into blues and pop/rock progressions I'd rather not.
I'm studying a masters in Sonic Arts at Istanbul Technical University.
I'm self-teaching myself creative coding with Processing and Arduino. I'm also learning some basic electronics. Eventually I want to be able to design and create bespoke musical instruments and integrate visuals with sound; by that I don't just mean visuals reacting to sound, but sound reacting to visuals. If you're reading this and have any experience with creative coding and electronics I would be really happy to meet you!
When it comes to travelling and lifestyle choices I've always been a bit contrary. I don't enjoy classic tourist holidays. The more unusual mode of travelling the better. I've travelled around Europe on a tiny motorbike and hitchhiked all over Central America. I want to get another motorbike and travel around Africa sometime soon.
Lifestyle-wise, I'm working part-time as a private English teacher and I'm a student. I'm very happy and blessed to live in such a beautiful city.
I'm into birds and Ornithology.
I read a lot of philosophy and psychology; mostly into Jung, Nietzche and Joseph Campbell (comparative mythology).
In case I'm writing to you as a joint couch request you can find my girlfriend's CS profile here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2001930957
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
I have met many friends through Couchsurfing and it has enhanced my travelling experiences immeasurably. It is never about the place you visit, it's about the people you meet and the experiences you share.
