Since joining CS in September 2011 I've traveled in France, sailed Hawaii, touched down in Arizona, and met locals in Tennessee, all with plenty of help from CS.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently (fall 2013) rooted in Vancouver, this may be a chance to host. For most of my life I pictured myself as a hippie. Today I uploaded a photo captioned "Shopping with Michelle at Costco." Life can take amazing turns. Humor helps.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Joined Couch Surfing in September 2011, before traveling in France. CS allowed us to meet fabulous people and discover bits of the France they love. In an earlier phase of my life I was a happy hippie and Couch Surfing recalls the best of that era.

One amazing thing I have seen? For several years in Vancouver I noticed a man who worked long, long days to collect bottles and cans. Distinctive looking fellow. One day as I checked out at a supermarket I saw him recycle 5 large pop containers at 20 cents each. He exited in front of me, stepped onto the sidewalk, and gave his dollar to a person begging on the sidewalk. Totally humbled me.
