ABOUT ME

Hi there!

My name is Joel and I'm a 28 year-old social worker from Melbourne, Australia. In the last few years, after many years of living in the city I love, I felt restless. I felt like something was missing from my life, and that if I didn't change something that I would regret it forever. I realised that this something was the lack of travel I had done. Even though I had travelled before, it had only been for short trips. So I saved & planned, and in October of last year, I left Melbourne with no set idea or plan of when I will return home on a permanent basis.

This brings me to where I am today. I have been travelling through South America for the last 4 months, and I plan to be here until mid-April after which I will leave for Canada, where I plan to live and work for up to 2 years. I hadn't done couch surfing until my time in Santiago, where it came about purely by chance. The experience was so fantastic that I hope to do more in this beautiful part of the world.

I have been a practising social worker for the last few years, and I intend to continue this in Canada & beyond. I love working in a job where the focus is on people, and I particularly like learning about others; their history and stories that make them who they are.

I have lived in share-houses since I moved out of home for approximately 10 years. In that time I have had a variety of experiences with varying house-mates, which has been great for me to choose what kind of person I want to be when in a shared-living environment. I am a very easy-going person, and am particularly house-proud. If you are happy to have me, I will say thank you in various ways, like contributing money for shopping/food & helping to keep your place clean. I am also happy for any type of arrangement regarding time with a host (for example if a host is happy to show me around or leave me to discover a city myself, either is fine). Hablo un poco de español, pero es no muy bien. ¡Quiero aprender mas en mi tiempo in Sur America!
