ABOUT ME

Student in the UK, moving to Montreal in September for a year abroad as part of my degree in music.

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy... hmm. Well, I guess it's time to unleash the clichés! Brace yourself... ready? Ok, I want to fulfil my potential and help others do the same. (Cringe much?).

As far as I can see this involves seeing the world (insert overused world-is-a-book quote here), pursuing a diverse range of interests, meeting amazing people, experiencing other cultures, taking control of my life and somehow providing others with the means to do just the same (the most important bit). I'm hoping that the last part will form the basis of my (preferably self-) employment when I graduate.

I'm also excited (not in that way) by terms such as unconventional living (heard of Chris Guillebeau?) and minimalism, even if I haven't completely integrated them into my life just yet.

Life is a journey, and I intend to enjoy every stage. (Sorry, I didn't warn you that one was coming!).

Wow, who'd have thought I could write a whole section on philosophy.. I must be getting old :/

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I don't have any CouchSurfing experience yet. Now's the time! I can't host anyone at the moment, but I'm looking forward to having people to stay once I have an apartment in Montreal.

Interests

Okay so music is kind of a big interest of mine... I attempt play a few instruments (well I do study music after all), and I'm always looking for opportunities to sing, so if you're in any way musical then crazy duet? Yes? I've conducted, studied harmony, aural, counterpoint, history and made crazy electroacoustic compositions. I love my degree!!

Also, photography. You can see my keen attempts at flickr.com/joe57spike (there's potential, maybe?!). I have a DSLR and it's a machine! (read entry-level). I have a film SLR too which is very cool but unfortunately film doesn't grow on trees so I'll subject you to digital privacy-invasion unless you're worth processing costs :) Seriously, I'll take your portrait if you so wish.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being at the top of the Eiffel Tower at night after it had closed (almost alone, great feeling) - my friend persuaded the staff to let us up since it was our last night in Paris. Awesome. Romantic. Except it was with a friend, and a male one at that. Shame.
