About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To help build communities that value diversity.

ABOUT ME

I'm originally from the Philippines but have been bouncing the globe on development projects that increase access to health care for rural and poor populations. I've lived in Tanzania and Fiji most recently.

I'm fascinated by people and love a great conversation. I love to dance, cook, sing songs, and see art.

PHILOSOPHY

Boredom is self-imposed, and excitement is do-it-yourself (DIY).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a member for some time now and enjoying meeting CSers anywhere in the globe.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only had 2 couch surfing experiences so far with some great gents in Puerto Rico. The first couch took us to a parranda--a midnight carolling session with over 80 people and tons of food. The second couch showed us around Old San Juan and really welcomed us into his life. They shared a common energy: a love for new perspectives and a global hospitality.

Interests

Painting, tennis, kayaking, playing the piano, volunteering, board games, story-telling, searching for the perfect recipe to soupy noodles, singing in the shower, improv acting, bioethics...

Music, Movies, and Books

Haruki Murakami, Jonah Lehrer, Pablo Neruda, Li-young Lee, and Jhumpa Lahiri.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Earlier this year, I went down the Yangtze River in China and got to see the some of the most amazing landscapes in my life our of a small river boat.

In 2004, I contracted Tuberculosis while I traveling through Peru--I didn't know for 6 months! I had to drop out of school for a bit and be locked up in a hospital room. The upside is that I felt reawakened by the near-death experience.

In 2001, I accidentally left my glass on the shore of a disappearing white sand island in the Philippines. When I took a small boat back to get my glasses, the island had vanished with the high tide. I said, "Ooh, DISAPPEARING white sand island..."

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I can teach people some improv games, public health trivia, how to fold a paper crane, a couple magic tricks and jokes, yoga poses, and some hand-me down recipes.

I love to share stories over a good meal and maybe some drinks.

One day I'm going to learn how to do the butterfly (not the dance, but the swim stroke). Anyone want to take on a student?
