Hey CS! I'm traveling in Europe July 15 - Sep 9, 2016. My girlfriend Rachel is meeting me in the middle, July 27 - Aug 22. The idea is to busk our way through, playing music wherever we can, getting gigs whenever possible. And, as always, enjoy and love where the wind takes us.

We are both actors, I play guitar and write songs, and we perform (mostly covers) together. I'm lucky to be able to take my work with me as I travel. Though luck has its own agenda sometimes - for example, my guitar was just stolen in Cádiz. But it's a fun story! And, I just got a new guitar in Sevilla, a Spanish-made little beauty at a pawn shop, so I lucked out again.

I am a huge nature lover and enjoy adventure, especially when it involves mountains, mountain lakes, mountain trails (or not), sand, hills, rock, trees, brush, animals, rivers, streams... I grew up doing a fair bit of hiking in the Cascade Mountains with my dad. I love cities too, but especially the quiet corners, the secret spots that only locals know about, where a blues guitarist might be playing in a tiny crowded bar. One of my all-time favorite hangouts was Mr. Spot's Chai House in Ballard, Seattle, WA. Open mic Thursdays at Mr. Spot's drew the most interesting, under-appreciated artists and characters from Seattle. The building got bought out several years ago and it's now a fancy Sushi bar or something. But there are all kinds of Mr. Spots, the spirit is always alive somewhere!

One thing that might be indicative is that my family, when together, is prone to burst spontaneously into ridiculous song. We take not-taking-ourselves-seriously pretty seriously.

Seattle is my home town. Memphis, TN is a dear home away from home, as I've done much of my acting work there with Tennessee Shakespeare Company. They are like second family. I recently moved to Brooklyn, NY - hasn't been long enough to feel like home yet. I look forward to one day having my own home to offer up to surfers so I can give back.

My first couchsurfing experience was in Auckland, New Zealand. Rachel and I stayed with two body painters. They were in the middle of prepping for a festival the next morning, so we hopped on board to help: I shaved all my body hair. The next morning we helped set up their tent at the festival and they painted me as a tiger! Which is how, a couple hours later, I shook the hand of NZ's prime minister wearing only underwear.

So CS won us over pretty quickly. It's such a fantastic portal into experiences you could never have encountered otherwise, and the people you meet are amazing.

兴趣

I studied theatre, and I am in theatre as a profession. I would love to be able to one day say I've done it all: sound design, lighting design, acting, singing, music direction, composer, direction, playwright. Maybe even stage managing. But that may be another life. I have knocked a few off the list, anyway.

Music is my passion. Film is my indulgence, but I would like to be a part of the creative side soon. Drawing and painting were my first obsessions. Language is a strength, but it requires a commitment that I haven't employed. Religion is fascinating and I want to learn more. Dance is my weakness, but I've got rhythm!

Do you have a stringed instrument gathering dust? It would be my honor and privilege to restring your neglected banjo/guitar/mandolin/violin for you. Or if you already play an instrument, let's jam! Glad to cook a meal, too - I can grill a good steak or salmon, stir fry, I make a pretty mean Gumbo (but it's very involved), or I can make tacos :-)
