About Me

Mmmmm, born in The Netherlands and settled in Australia. I spend a lot of time in Asia especially in Indonesia as some of my relatives live there and as I did research on the Dayak and Mentwaiaindigenous people. My base is in a little town just south of Cairns, Australia, but as I have itchy feet I travel a lot around.
At the end of the year I have been offered a teaching position at a university in Jogyakarta, Indonesia. This gives me time to travel a bit more for the time being

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Wish to meet people who have an interest in meeting travellers from different places. As I travelled widely it will be nice to swap stories, ideas and perhaps share a meal. Cooking is my hobby, and like to surprise people when it is the right occasion.

Interests

My interest in people has routed me to international studies while I was at Uni, with a big focus on Indonesia. I have a website iifas.info, through which I organise yearly conferences on social issues. This takes quite a bit of time to organise.

Music, Movies, and Books

All kinds of music, depending on the mood.
Have not seen a movie for a while, but intrigued by Scandinavian drama series. I read mostly topics on humanities. My favourite magazine is Cosmos and find the Economist a great publication.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived with the Taman and Kantu' tribe in Borneo a few years ago. The living in a long-house has given me a new twist in life.
Crossing the Sahara along the coast of Morocco was also a trip never to forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

Languages are a magic introduction to culture.
Learning to be more aware of what is going on from an other people's perspective is interesting. Sharing time and experiences with people are a good way to enjoy life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Possibly s good story and my culinary kitchen skills. In one of my previous occupations I was cooking in a small restaurant, which has equipped me for a love of preparing food with limited means.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Denmark, Finland, Gambia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand

Countries I’ve Lived In
