About Me
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm not looking for any romance on CS, as I currently live in Vizag with my boyfriend. But I am very keen on building a happy, versatile life for myself in India and I see having friends of my own all over the country a vital part of it. Also wish to travel a lot in the future too, maybe even with new friends, and for me meeting up/couchsurfing with locals is the best way to get to know a place. Next plan is Nepal in October.
Music, Movies, and Books
I have a Spotify playlist for every mood and my current favourite includes mostly chill tempo jazzy, groovy tunes with some ethnic spices, such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ali Farka Toure, Alabama Shakes, Amadou & Mariam, The Bamboos, Fleetwood Mac, Jill Scott, alt-J and The Cat Empire. I once spent two weeks listening to nothing but Home by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, combined with its music video, that is how I wish life and love to be. People might call me a hipster, but then I tell my deepest, darkest secret: I quite enjoyed Justin Bieber's latest album too.
Dead Poets Society and The Bridges of Madison County are both movies that I've had to pause for hours not being able to keep my eyes open from all the crying. I love Casablanca and Humphrey Bogart and apparently my deep attraction for Irrfan Khan means I have a weird taste in men. The Lunchbox was amazing. The Revenant and Dunkirk were such masterpieces, because they made me feel terrible and anxious in waiting.
My favourite authors include Hemingway and Murakami, who perfectly captures my feelings about running in his book What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. Jhumpa Lahiri makes me weep like a little girl and I can only hope to be half the writer she is one day. The Unbearable Lightness Of Being changed my views on love completely once upon a time. I'm slightly ashamed to say that my favourite book is The Alchemist, but it's the one that I hold by far the dearest. I also enjoy following whatever Alain de Botton writes. I have probably read the Harry Potter books over a hundred times. Nehru's Discovery of India is next on my list.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In Finland I worked as a teacher's assistant in special education and I taught an 11-year-old girl, who was mathematically very challenged and at the level of a 4-year-old, how to calculate 4+7 in her head.
Or the fact that I moved halfway across the world for love.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'll gladly share my mastery in the arts of cooking dal and perfect, round rotis, exercising (gym, running, yoga) and eating in a healthy way and English language. Or cursing in Finnish. I'm your go-to girl with sports questions in pub quizzes.
I'm trying to learn conversational Hindi and Telugu. So far I can ask my maid to clean a few things and ask my papaya vendor for prices. Hindi is at the level of "sure ways to make your partner lol at you". So if there are people to patiently try to have very basic conversations in these languages with me, I will gladly be taught!
