About Me

I'm Johanna, a very inspired, happy, small-town girl from mid-west America.

After living in Europe for 1 year, spending 6 months in Asia, Europe for 1 more month after that, and a handful of road-trips, Couch Surfing is my preferred way to travel. I have been so fortunate with the relationships I have made in Thailand, California, Spain, Morocco, Germany, and other places in the world through using this website!

About me? I love. I am deeply moved with with cultures, languages, and the world. I would consider myself pretty laid back and love to exchange ideas and experiences! I love the sun. Writing. Reading. The sea. Making friends (!!!) Listening. Learning. I am continuously striving to live in the moment. I am happy. I am growing. Traveling has made me realize that home is a place inside of me rather than a physical space. So, I keep on going.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can't think of a lot that is much better than people opening their homes to help travelers to intentionally make connections with each other. It's what magic must look like.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: The Growlers, Bon Iver, Angus & Julia Stone, Novo Amor
Books: Eat, Pray, Love, The Alchemist, There is No Right Way to Meditate, Big Magic

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leaving at 18 y/o for a year of solo travel around Europe, and then a year later leaving to travel solo around Asia for 6 months. Hanging out with nuns. Living in a meditation center. Hitchhiking halfway across Myanmar by myself. Motorbiking to a monkey forest in Bali. Sitting on top of sand dunes in the Sahara desert watching the moon rise. Accidentally parting with a prince in a random club in LA?? Paragliding in India. Camping next to the sea in the middle of nowhere, Louisiana. Being a big sister!

Teach, Learn, Share

“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body." -Walt Whitman

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would be happy to teach you about culture in the USA, Mexico, and share stories. Oh, and I'm a photographer. If someone would like to learn something about that, I would be happy to share!
