About Me
tranquilo jonny
Single loving life, vegetarian and still travelling the world on my motorbike, I have 2 daughters 33 and 36 and 3 grandchildren. I like to travel solo as it is for me the best way to meet people, sometimes other travellers going in the same direction and other times random strangers. I enjoy volunteering particularly where building is required, I can utilise my building skills giving me the opportunity to pay it forward, karma.
I am having extremely fortunate in that I can shut my front door and go travelling for as long as I want, which is usually until the desire to see home once more. My longest bike trip was 18 months taking the opportunity to volunteer in Canada, Columbia and Brazil.
Travelling the road is symbiotic, there is a rhythm to the road seeming to become one as mile after mile passes. Random thoughts materialising, being enveloped in your own microcosm then bang you arrive at your destination and meet yet more amazing people, get to know your way around and then it’s time to leave. As you leave it is with a tinge of sadness that you hit the road, this sadness is soon replaced by a big smile as the rhythm reaches inside and you again become one with the road contemplating what and who is around the next corner.
My granddaughter said she wanted to come travelling and I really wanted to introduce her to couchsurfing as it is very liberating and an amazing experience so we spent a few weeks in South Africa and Botswana and then on another trip we couchsurfed for a month in Israel and Jordan.
Back to India 🇮🇳 for the winter and hoping this time to explore 🇳🇵 Nepal but this begs the question as to whether we have free will or not. The Stoics promulgate that our actions and their consequences are predetermined so is it in the lap of the gods......................
A lovely Italian host said to me:
‘You are rich signor, the adventurer has no age, adventure is in the soul’
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Apart from visiting beautiful places, everywhere has it's own beauty, the joy of travelling is the people you meet on the way and it is the people that make the trip. I never ceased to be amazed by the friendliness, curiosity and hospitality of strangers, some who have gone on to become good friends. Especially people I meet on the road, pulling into a gas station often someone comes over for a chat, where are you going, are you travelling alone, aren’t you scared, how old are you being the most frequently asked questions. This sometimes results in invitations to join them for coffee, a meal or even an invite to stay the night.
