About Me

33. Married. Friendly. Daydreamer.

About to embark on 35 hours of flying to perhaps one of the furthest flung reaches of the world on an 'I am so bored at work, what else could I be doing' whim and figured life was too short not to go out and explore the world while I still had the opportunity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of my friends was travelling for three years and between listening to his stories and trying to help him write a book about his adventures, one of the places he told me about ahead of my upcoming trip to New Zealand was Couchsurfing.com

At the time of writing I haven't really made any accommodation plans while I'm in New Zealand apart from when I'm doing my organised tour and this seemed like a great way to meet interesting people, learn more about the country and find out some great places to visit while I make my way down to Wellington from Auckland.

Music, Movies, and Books

You're as likely to catch me listening to Foo Fighters and Beastie Boys as you are Dusty Springfield and Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. 'Real' artists as opposed to manufactured pop.

My favourite movies are things like Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and Naked Gun so comedies mostly but I'll watch just about anything featuring a comic book character and, strangely, one of my prized possessions is a steel book Jason Bourne trilogy.

My favourite books is a tough one because I'll read just about anything. When I was younger I read things like Stephen King (Insomnia was a bit of a mind bender), Frederick Forsyth (The Odessa File) and Alistair Maclean (Where Eagles Dare) and then when I got older I started reading comic books like Judge Dredd, Daredevil and Deadpool...something tells me I got that back to front?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Saved someone's life.

A friend of mine's cousin had died from a rare disease and I decided to join Anthony Nolan as a result.

About 6 months after joining I got a call to say that I was a match for someone needing a stem cell transplant so I had multiple blood tests carried out, numerous injections to make my own body produce more stem cells than I needed and then flew down to London to have a machine extract them from my blood for five and a half hours.

Teach, Learn, Share

You know the phonetic alphabet? A is for Alpha, B is for Bravo? Well I've got a Scottish phonetic alphabet I could teach you.

I can teach you all the Scottish words you need to know and help you blend right in when you visit.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What can I share? I think the first thing I can offer and it's only fair that I do is the offer of a couch / bed-settee in Scotland if you should ever make it to this part of the world. My profile shows that I'm "Not Accepting Guests" right now but that would change in the future.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cyprus, England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Northern Ireland, Spain, Sweden
