About Me

I enjoy cooking, hiking, camping, fishing, exploring, brewing my own beer, trying new foods and drinks and most importantly...sharing all of the above with good company and humor.

Kaylyn, my girlfriend will be traveling with me, until we get her profile up she is pirating mine:

I (Kaylyn) love all things design, making terrible puns, coming up with scenarios that will never happen, professional merchandiser. I love exploring, building and making craft, interior design, a good cup of coffee or beer. I recently started experimenting with leather working, weaving, and how to take a good food pic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To travel and meet like minded people from around the world.

**beginning March 11, Kaylyn and I will begin traveling around Europe for hopefully a year. We are primarily using WorkAway to work and learn new skills while we travel but we will be exploring and meeting new people whenever we have a chance! We just started a blog if you are interested seeing what we have been up to so far (i.e. we are at a pig farm)

Music, Movies, and Books

John:
If I had to choose a theme song for my life, it would be:
"Seven Nation Army"

Classic rock, Latin Music, Oldies - or anything sounding Dean Martin-y
Gladiator, breaking bad, game of thrones, vikings, the wire, true detective (only season 1, season 2 was garbage)
The power of one, the unbearable lightness of being, Darma bums (Jack Kerouac is the man), and anything by Carlos Ruiz Zafon among others.

Kaylyn:
If a song could be my theme song: Liztomania- Phoenix
Anything that has a good beat, feels epic, or could be playing during a movie montage scene, or on a beach.
//Buena Vista Social Club// Chett Faker//Rodriguez//Ibeye//Flume// Kygo//Golden Oldies

-The Graduate, the Intouchables, Game of thrones, Seinfeld
Alcheimist & Happy Potter

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

J: Spent one week in rural China for my friend's wedding, then flew to Italy to work a grape harvest in Abruzzo

K: Hiked the very active Kilauea volcano in Hawaii and tossed rocks into the lava.

Teach, Learn, Share

Before beginning our travels Kaylyn worked for the retail company Anthropologie as the visual manager, so if you need any design tips she is your girl.

I have a solid background in beer and wine knowledge, and am pretty resourceful around the kitchen. I'm interested in learning what the local customs are in regards to entertainment, food and drink. If I'm in your city, I'll most likely have what you're having.
