About Me

Hey I'm John. I was brought up in the UK, however most of my family comes from Spain (although I don't look like it). I love learning languages and travelling, and I'm currently in the second year of my undergrad degree. I've been spending most of this past year studying and working in China as part of my year abroad.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is my first time using Couchsurfer. A couple of my friends have been using it for a while now and have really recommended it as a way to meet new people and experience a different perspective when travelling. While I currently live with family in the UK or in dorms while studying and am unable to welcome other couchsurfers to stay, I am looking to meet people either while travelling or at home.

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes are quite varied when it comes to music movies and books, but feel free to enquire more about what I am into. Recently (while not music, a movie or a book) I have really loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so if we have that in common it's also great.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I've done is a month long expedition to India, which I suppose is what really kickstarted my desire to travel more and try different types of trips. Beforehand I had gone on holiday, although usually with family or friends. This trip, however, was self funded and planned amongst our group, and also consisted of a trek and some community work in Kerala in the South of India. It was definitely the most challenging thing I had done up to that point as we only lived off of what we were carrying in our backpacks and had to budget and plan as a group, as well as staying only in hostels and moving around a lot. Also while it may sound cliche, in the end you really felt less like a typical tourist because for long stretches of time we would be in the middle of nowhere and the only foreigners in sight, so we had to engage a lot more with Indian people and society than you would if you were just in an organised guided group holiday. It also helped a lot with learning how to adapt and improvise to unforeseen and unexpected situations so it was very valuable in that sense.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very open minded and not fussy at all so I am pretty easy going when it comes to anything a host may need from me. I am also comfortable staying with other travellers and helping to do any housework necessary. I am very mindful of my space and would not invade any privacy.
