I've travelled and lived in different places my whole life, and now I think its better to experience a country without the glossy artificiality that comes as a tourist. Couchsurfer lets you meet people and take short residence in places where people actually live there for extended periods of time.

Making it a much more valuable experience than the sterility of hotels.
