About Me

I grew up just south of Gainesville, FL, in the middle of a lovely swamp. I enjoy reenacting, which funneled nicely into the History profession. So I learned archiving, and from there worked in the Florida State Park Service, and now I run a small museum in Seminole County. I deal mostly with 19th century history these days, but I've always had soft spots for the Bronze Age, early Middle Ages, and the beginnings of the Early Modern period. I enjoy looking at those points of major historical transition.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a historian, and I've always wanted to travel to the places I study from afar. I also love absorbing local history and learning different viewpoints surrounding historical events I've only read about.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly listen to instrumentals: soundtracks, classical, ambient, etc., but there are few genres I dislike, and I find new styles interesting.

For books, recently I've been rereading "Looking for Dilmun" by Geoffey Bibby, and I'm in search of a good modern overview of current archaeology for the Bronze Age Collapse if anyone has suggestions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been a reenactor since 2008, mostly doing 16th/17th century battles in St. Augustine, FL.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love board games. I know a great many historical board games and enjoy studying the way they evolve over time, and I'm always on the lookout for more games (historical or otherwise) from places around the world to learn and play.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I usually have a sack full of dice and games to play, and love to teach and learn in turn.

I also enjoy handwashing dishes and weeding gardens, if you need that sort of thing.
