About Me
Welcome, my friend.
Whether you just quit your job, got fired by your boss,
or just had the best lobster roll of your life on the side of the road —
whether your pockets are full or you’ve got nothing but a few coins —
take a deep breath before you arrive.
You’re about to ride a journey as unpredictable as rafting the Tara River.
I’m John. Not a doctor, not a lawyer.
My superpower?
Offering you a meal, a hot shower,
a place to crash so hard you’ll wake up in another time zone,
and a cat who talks more than your Italian grandma (if you’re not allergic).
I won’t charge you a cent —
but bring your best manners and some basic human decency.
Why do I do this?
Because I once hitchhiked across Canada in 42 days,
from east to west, 5000 kilometers,
surviving on nothing but my face, my voice,
and the kindness of complete strangers.
Now it’s my turn to give back.
But before you pack your bags, please read the fine print:
• This is a home, not a hotel.
Looking for a private room and towels folded like swans?
Try asking the student dorms nearby — they might have short-term rentals.
• We’ll share a room (don’t get ideas — it’s a floor mat or air mattress).
If you snore like a tractor, give me a heads-up.
I’ll prep the earplugs — you should too.
• I have a cat. Super cute. Super judgey.
If she doesn’t like you, I probably won’t either.
And if you’re allergic, it’s best you skip this place altogether.
Most importantly:
If you have other options, please leave this spot for someone who truly needs it.
But if you’re stuck, down and dirty,
I’ll be here with a hand to pull you back up.
I may not join you for drinks,
but food, a shower, and a place to rest —
those three things I’ve got covered, no question.
— Your host,
John (Can’t cut hair, but knows how to use a washing machine)
