Présentation
À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
To find my legs in the working world!
ABOUT ME
I'm goofy, light-hearted, and try to be open-minded about things! Perspectives vary wildly from person to person so I try to keep myself humble by reminding myself that people come from completely different places. I love to talk in depth about experiences and about the world around us. Connecting despite few shared circumstances is one of the coolest things that can happen, I think.
PHILOSOPHY
I like to live my life with my heart on my sleeve, where it belongs. I try to devote myself to realness, focus on things that pertain to all of us, and devote my time to things that bring people together. As for why I do things, a friend of mine summed it up best for me by saying that life is absurd: "To me, by first acknowledging that nothing has meaning, mankind can then choose to him/herself craft meaning — rather than derive meaning. This implies that you can reconstruct all types of cause-effect relationships, or ignore them altogether."

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I don't have a place myself to offer yet (I live with my parents while I get on my own feet with my career), but I hope to soon!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Nothing yet, excited to try!
Centres d'intérêt
I'm a classically trained musician who has been overcome by the rhythms and grooves of jazz. Jazz pop is my thing. I play the cello, guitar, piano, saxophone, ukulele somewhat, and I've educated myself on a lot of traditional Chinese instruments too! I like to be critical about music to a point that I don't end up making assumptions about other genres of music because of it. i.e. I don't like putting down pop just because classical has more complex structures.
Other than that, I'm a huge fan of basketball, trying to learn about hip-hop culture, and have tried my hand very often at different types of poetry and writing. Love trying everything and anything.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
1) I was in Norway with the Penn Glee Club and hiked to the top of Lysefjord, a hiking trail at the top of which is Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock), which looks out into an incredibly breathtaking scene (see my profile picture). Can't say I've ever had nature take my breath away like that before.
2) My alma mater's spoken word poetry troupe is called the Excelano Project. I recommend fans of poetry check them out, because each and every one of them is a beautiful individual. Each and every time I've gone, I've left inspired and dumbstruck by the richness and vivacity of their spirits. The spring of my junior year, one of them asked for a cello accompaniment! Could not believe I got to be a part of one of their shows. Completely honored, starstruck, and thrilled.
3) I got to play as a part of a lab orchestra in the Curtis Institute of Music, a top music conservatory in the country. These students, while college-aged, are literally all of professional-solist caliber, each talking casually about what orchestra they were going to play at next or what their next high-profile gig was. For whatever reason, they don't like taking the first chair-- I think they have modesty really drilled into them with how much they have to force themselves to improve. Anyway, that left me to sit in the first chair, so it was like I was leading other cellists in the Curtis Symphony Orchestra while we were playing the Firebird Suite by Stravinsky O_o........

I know a lot about music. If you're good at remembering what note a song starts on, I might be able to teach you how I feel like I trained myself to have perfect pitch? I can beatbox too!
My second major is Computer Science, I could teach you a little bit of how to code? A question I get a lot is "how does the computer know how to turn the code into something it understands"? That question is a little bit really involved but I can try to tell you!
I'm also somewhat of an NBA guru. I'm big into fantasy basketball so I know a lot of the nuts and bolts =D
