About Me

I grew up in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury in a family of five (plus some pets), before leaving the city for the beautiful natural landscapes of Marin across the Golden Gate Bridge to the north. I'm currently studying geology at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota—and understanding the concept of "real" winters. My interests range far and wide, from playing cello to rock climbing to nature restoration. I especially love the thrill of trying new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to explore new places, meet new people, and learn about this vast world we live in—all without paying a fortune. What better way to do that than couchsurfing?!

Music, Movies, and Books

There are so many to list, so here are a few.
Music: I love most genres, and have a special spot for classical music as a cellist. I also love classics like the Beatles, Queen, and Led Zeppelin. I'm currently really into AURORA, Lake Street Dive, Børns, and Mumford & Sons.
Movies: I'll probably watch anything that's been nominated for an Oscar. I like anything by Hayao Miyazaki. The Big Short takes place during an event I lived through, so it was pretty interesting to watch.
Books: My all-time favorite book series is His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck is also a great book. I really enjoy Neil Gaiman, Thomas Merton, and Stephen King.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A couple years ago I traveled to Beijing, China to teach music and English at a summer camp for the children of migrant workers. I was able to help provide these kids with a unique opportunity to improve their future job possibilities, as well as find their love for music. I was also able to improve my Chinese and learn about Chinese culture from all of the wonderful people I met while I was there. It was one of the most eye-opening experiences I've had in terms of understanding cultural, social, political, and economic differences between the U.S. and China.
