Overview
About Me
Hi, I'm Jonathan! Originally from the UK, I now work as a researcher in Switzerland. Recently, I started to travel much more often as part of my job, and it's fun to combine it with some little holidays and sightseeing too.
I love cooking and baking, especially cheesecake. Recently, I also got into language learning in a big way, and I'm taking French and Japanese classes. I quite like to play board games too and have a small collection.
When travelling, it's fun to walk around and just take in the architecture. My mother gave me a sketchbook as a gift a few years ago, and I plan to fill it with drawings of cool buildings from around the world, and then give it back to her one day.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing seemed like a great way to make new friends, and discover less-travelled hidden gems when visiting a new place.

Music, Movies, and Books
I tend to enjoy dark, atmospheric spy, crime, and detective thrillers. That goes for both films and books. Last year though, I was given a large collection of classic English novels, by famous authors, and I'm working my way through them. I'm currently reading Moby Dick.
As for music, I listen to a lot of different things depending on my mood. Vapourwave, house, 8-bit and other electronic music is nice to work to. When I'm feeling energetic, I prefer to listen to rock music. My favourite band is Feeder. I enjoy jazz too, both to listen to and play on the piano.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I recently went skydiving for the first time, which was an incredible experience. The best thing about it was of course, the view, the wind in my face, and feeling weightless! It lasted a lot longer than I expected, but the adrenaline means that the whole jump is also something of a blur in my memory now. I'd definitely do it again.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teaching and learning is something that I really enjoy. In fact, learning new things is probably what I value most in life.
In a new place, I'd like to learn something about the history there, how people live, the architecture, and what makes people there think the way that they do.
It would be pretty cool to learn to make a new, popular dish from each place that I visited too.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Let's see...
-a piano lesson
-language exchange in English, French, or Japanese
-food and culture from the UK
-something about my research, which uses maths and secret codes!
At the very least, I'm always willing to bake cakes for people.
