About Me

Hey everyone,
I'm a youngish (yeah I can still say that :p) traveler. Been living in Sydney for the past 8 years and I've been loving it. I moved on my own when I was 22 from Paris to experience something new so I decided to move across the world and I haven't regretted it at all.
I'm a bit of an introvert so I was shy at first but as I got to meet more people, I opened up more and more and while there is always a bit of ice to be broken, once it is, I am 100% at ease with people.
I'm quite organized but quite passionate too hence why, after a trip in Mongolia a few years back, I decided to take on a trip around the whole world, though it'll take more than 80 days.
One of the goals is to create a photobook of my travels that I would develop with local photographers I hope to meet wherever I'll go to highlight their neighborhoods, their lifestyles and maybe even issues they encounter. If you're curious, I got some of my street photo work on instagram @jonotakespics.
I have never experienced couch surfing, except with a few friends I already knew for some time so I'm looking forward to meeting people in here and see if I get to meet people this way around the whole world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe couchsurfing to be one of, if not the best way to meet people around the world, people with whom you'd already have some shared values of friendship and helping out fellow travelers. This is also a great way to get to know how locals live and experience first hand a different culture.
As I mentioned previously, I want to create a photobook of my trip around the world with local amateur photographers so to get to know locals through couchsurfing would, I believe, be a great way to meet such people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music wise I got an eclectic taste so among my favorites you'll find : Kendrick Lamar, Queen, M83, Daft Punk, Linkin Park

Movies, that's easy, Alien is my favorite of all time. Otherwise, I'm a Marvel buff!

Books, love the Game of Thrones series (waiting for Winds of Winter...) but there's a horror book that I read that really stuck with me, it's called "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling through the Gobi for 5 days.
There were only 5 of us, a friendly German couple, our guide and our driver in an old russian van. And we stayed in local families every single night which was amazing. Of course we trekked but the best part was that we got to share a slice of life with those families, play with their kids, whether it's volleyball or a game of Shagai or even help herd their cattle. I loved it so much that it inspired me to travel around the world to experience different cultures in the same way and document all of it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've had a camera in my hands for the past 8-9 years so I grew to learn a fair bit of it and could happily help out anyone who wants to learn how to use it and some basic rules of composition. And maybe even have a street photo partner :)

I'm keen to learn different languages, even the most basic words, I prefer to put in the effort to learn my hosts' languages than to rely on google translate and such plus I've noticed locals prefer and appreciate that quite a lot.
Also, food, I adore food, food is my god. So I'm definitely keen to taste or even learn to cook local delicacies!

Share, I'll be sharing my experiences and pictures through my blog eyepronouncei.com while travelling. Been a while since the last article but I'm working on a couple right now so it'll be brought back to life soonish :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm glad to learn 3 languages (French/Portuguese/English) so I'd be happy to share that knowledge with anyone who wants. Though I warn you, French grammar is a tangled mess :p
My cooking is not that evolved but I learned how to make a proper couscous royal (with slow cooked lamb, merguez sausages, hearty sauce, etc...) from my mom so defo keen to cook that for my hosts as well.
And the best way to break the ice is around a glass so if you do drink alcohol, let me know and I can bring a bottle when I arrive.
