About Me

Hi there! Im an almost Cornell grad, where I studied Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. My last trip took me to Central America through Belize, Guatemala, and Mexico. Right now I'm on a 10 day road trip around America because I've actually never seen the middle part of America! Someday I hope to visit all 50 states, but right now the plan is Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Kansas.

If you're curious my website is jonathanmares.com which probably has some more information about me that I forgot to mention here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm new to couchsurfing; I've heard many good things from friends who have stayed with other people and decided to give it a try. I'm hoping to share my experiences with other people I would not normally run in to.

Interests

  • classical music
  • jazz
  • piano
  • computer science
  • programming
  • classic rock

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I've been getting into non-fiction - I've enjoyed Dan Ariely's Predictably Irrational and Deep Work by Cal Newport.

My favorite band has to be Electric Light Orchestra, and my favorite movies are probably Pulp Fiction and The Martian.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably the most physically demanding thing I've ever done was climb Mount Acetanengo in Guatemala. The whole trek is pretty challenging, but the hardest part is climbing the peak at 4:30 in the morning, slipping on the rocky soil, and breathing thin 12,000 ft air. Worth the effort!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm sure we'll have lots to share. We can talk about music, politics, self-development, science, psychology, travelling, as well other things!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can play the piano, so if you have one that would be great! I still remember some classical music and have been learning jazz.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Denmark, Germany, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In

Israel, United States
